mæ operates an Atelier structure with dedicated project teams being involved from feasibility to completion ensuring due care and attention throughout the project process. We have a team with a broad range of skills from architecture, urban design, policy development and computational design. The practice is led by partners Alex Ely and Michael Howe:

Alex Ely MA(RCA) RIBA

Alex Ely is an architect and Partner at mæ. He leads the practice’s work on sustainable urbanism and housing, working with a wide range of local authorities, public agencies and Housing Associations on housing regeneration, masterplanning, and new build housing design. He lectures internationally on design and policy and was a finalist in the G4C Constructing Excellence New Generation Award 2007. Alex was identified as one of the ‘new classics’: influential pathfinders helping to shape the early 21st century. In practice he has worked for Foster and Partners and Pierre d’Avoine Architects.

Michael Howe MA(RCA) RIBA

Michael Howe is an architect and Partner at mæ. Michael has been responsible for the design of projects including the mobile m-house, burial ground design, exhibition designs, public and private housing and arts projects. He graduated from the Royal College of Art, the University of Westminster and originally trained as a fine artist at Central School of Art in London. He has taught architecture at undergraduate and post-graduate levels and was co-ordinator of technology at the University of Greenwich for five years. He is currently a visiting critic at a number of architecture schools. In practice he has worked for Matthew Lloyd Architects, Zaha Hadid, and Patel Taylor Architects.
