Chobham Manor

Mæ led a consortium bid comprising Swan, Urban Splash, YOO and MACE for the prestigious Chobham Manor scheme. Our shortlisted scheme is the first phase of five distinct neighbourhoods planned as part of the Olympic Legacy within the 2012 Olympic site. The five sites aim to provide 11,000 new homes along with education and community facilities, as part of a healthy and sustainable development over the next 18 years.

Situated between parklands, the Velodrome and the Athletes’ Village, Chobham Manor aims to provide a family focused neighbourhood of around 800 highest quality homes upon a 9.3 hectare site.

The design is based upon London’s traditional neighbourhoods of tree-lined streets and local green squares. In order to give panoramic views towards the city and across roof top gardens, the scheme varies from 8 storey apartments, with a 10/12 storey element at one end, sloping down to 3/4 storey terraces where it meets the new Queen Elizabeth Park. Main routes through the neighbourhood help retain a link from the Athletes’ Village to the Velodrome and provides a ‘green corridor’ as an extension of the park.

Inclusivity and sustainability are overarching themes to create a Lifetime Neighbourhood. 70% of houses are family homes and aim to provide for today’s modern families. For this, a combination of varied housing mixes, internal flexibility of rooms and scope to extend are proposed to cater for housholds of varying types and sizes. There are also areas which allow for community self-build homes to happen.
