mæ Partner Alex Ely instigated and project managed this piece of national research into the design quality of our housing when Head of Sustainable Communities at CABE.
‘Housing audit: assessing the design quality of new homes’ was the first phase of a nationwide audit of new build housing. It covered London, the South East and East of England and assessed 100 recent housing developments for quality in terms of layout, urban design and place-making and uncovered the processes that helped shape them.
One million new homes are planned for London and the South East by 2016. CABE commissioned this audit to gauge the current state of new build housing in the UK and to assess how well UK house builders are placed to meet this growing housing challenge.
The nationwide audit, covering the remaining government regions has since been completed. Download this publication. Project facts Date: 2004 Contract Value: £100,000 Client: CABE
